Matt Watt aka Killawatt first took the decks at the age of 16 in 2006. Originally a jungle / reggae / breakbeat DJ at free parties in East Anglia, he rose quickly through the ranks of the regional DJ scene, representing his co-run jungle label Satta Sounds. It wasn’t until moving to Guildford to study creative music technology at the University of Surrey that he was first exposed to dubstep. With his background in jungle and reggae, it was no surprise his early production was focussed more on the ‘dub’ side of dubstep with heavy influences from artists such as Lee Perry, Radikal Guru, Roots Meetings and Vibronics. His first solo release was on the New Zealand label, DubPride Recordings.
